Windows 8 vs Windows 7 OS

Windows 8 vs 7
If you have purchased a new laptop or desktop recently, the chances are that you will now be trying to get grips with Microsoft’s latest operating system, Windows 8. And if I am not wrong, Windows 8 now comes pre-installed on most of newly launched computing devices since the later part of 2012.
Windows 8 is a new version of OS that comes with new style interface along with support for touch screens- be it on laptop, mobile phone or tablet PC. Though Win 8 looks quite different from Windows 7, but it doesn’t come with very drastic change. But the change in layer of OS from 7 to 8 is pretty drastic, and if you ask me, it might not be the right path for everyone.
Windows 8 OS is growing, but still it is a way behind Windows 7. After nine months on sale, figures reveal that Win 8 will need some more time to take lead from its predecessor.
But still, Windows 8 OS has been attracting users spanning over every age group and work field. What’s new? Of course, its new user interface is something which has been making news all round the circle; but for some it is disappointing. Also, initial reaction of most of the users with regards to Windows 8’s usability and user experience has received mixed response; even from tech gurus and reviewers.

Let us check out the main differences between Windows 8 and Windows 7:

The first and most obvious reason you might not like Windows 8 is the Start Menu. In Win 7, you can access the Start Menu by clicking an icon at the left corner; from where you can easily search for files and programs or just click the shortcuts created on the Start Menu itself.
But making things more complicated, Windows 8 comes with this drastic change. There is no Start Menu; instead a colorful Start Screen can be seen with Live Tiles updating information on various installed applications and programs. And this has become a topic for discussion on most of the tech sites and forum. Many argue that the lacks of Start Menu makes search, explore and navigation quite complicated on Windows 8, though there are others who think that it gives new experience to the users taking them beyond the unimaginable. So, I wouldn’t say Win 8 lacked that charm, but it requires some more time to make users addictive.
That was the start up to give you an idea that if Windows 8 is complicated then it can be fun too exploring it. Well, here is a list of features that might help you make your mind for Windows 8 over Windows 7:
  • Instead of Icons that we found in Windows 7, the new Start Screen in Win 8 comes with Tiles. It might feel bit awkward to open the apps, and if you are unable to locate one, then right click mouse at the bottom of the screen, to get All App option. Bit time consuming but that is something new and refreshing.
  • In Windows 7, you get a Windows Live Mail for your email but Windows 8 OS comes with new updated Mail app, which again is something different.
  • Unlike Win 7, where we have separate contacts for Skype, email and social networking; Windows 8 has collaborated each contact in its new People app, making it easier for the users to search the listed contacts at one place.
  • Windows 8 comes with two versions of Internet Explorer 10. One can be opened from a Tile Screen and another from an icon on the Desktop; though you can still pin programs to the task bar.
  • Windows 8 OS comes with a new antivirus program called ‘Defender’.
  • Additional apps can also be downloaded in Windows 8

    The End

    Windows 8

Unlike Windows 7, Win 8’s new UI facilitates in easy reinstallation and restoration of the program. But it is sure to create trouble for troubleshooters if they want to access vital spots like Safe Mode. Moreover, if Win 7 has been optimized for laptops and desktops only; then Windows 8 is compatible with smart phones, computers and tablet PCs as well along with touch input.
FYI, Windows is faster than Windows 7 in some aspects though; such as start up time, wake up from sleep, shut down time, multimedia performance but when it comes to 3D performance, Win 7 has always been voted best for high resolution gaming performance.
At the end of the day, selecting amongst the two Operating Systems just comes down to a matter of personal taste, user experience and, of course finances. If you have just given Windows 8 blink and go feel, then I would recommend trying it once and ensure to explore. It is only the matter of familiarity that might make you lean towards Win 8.
